Three environmental NGOs are taking Danone to court on Monday 9 January. They accuse the company of using too much plastic, despite the law.
On Monday, January 9, the Danone group was summoned to court by three environmental organizations for “failure to comply with the duty of care”. They denounce the use of plastic. Since 2017, a French law requires companies to reduce their impact on the environment. “Today, we ask from the company a strategy of reduction, of de-plasticization,” says Philippine Huc, spokesperson for the NGO coalition.

More than 750 000 tons of plastic in 2021
She denounces the fact that Danone has not made a firm commitment in this direction. The three NGOs reproach the company for using more and more plastic. Thus, more than 750,000 tons of plastic would have been produced in 2021, against 716,000 in 2020. For its part, Danone claims to have reduced its plastic use by 12% in four years. To use less plastic, glass containers can be preferred.
